How many chargers can my site support?

That depends on your incoming supply and your existing demand. A survey will show what headroom you have. Load management can stretch that further by sharing available power across several chargers and reducing output when the building is busy, which often avoids a costly supply upgrade.

Do I need to tell the network operator?

Usually, yes. Most EV installations need to be notified to your Distribution Network Operator (DNO), and larger ones may need approval before work starts. A good installer handles this for you.

Who will use the chargers?

This matters more than people expect. Staff-only chargers are simpler. If visitors or the public will use them, you’ll want payment options, clear signage, and a layout that follows accessibility guidance (PAS 1899) so drivers with disabilities can use them comfortably.

Should I charge people to use them?

Networked chargers running on the OCPP standard let you set tariffs, restrict access to staff, and see usage reports. Choosing an open standard also means you’re free to switch software provider later without replacing hardware.

What about the groundworks?

Cable routes, trenching and parking bay layout can make up a large share of the cost. Siting chargers close to the supply keeps this down, so it’s worth considering before you decide which bays to use.
